.................................................................................
Juana Maria Camilleri was born in Mallorca, Spain.
She grew up in Palisades, New York, forty-five minutes from Manhattan, where her parents, Stephanie and Charlie, practiced their art, Stephanie as an illustrator and painter, and Charlie as a jazz trumpet player and arranger. Charlie played with Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Benny Goodman, Maynard Ferguson, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente. and Machito. For many of these he also did arranging. He played with Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, Zoot Sims, the Brecker Brothers, Larry Harlow, Sarah Vaughn, and countless others.
Juana spent her elementary school years at The Rockland Project School, where she focused on music, dance and drama. When she was eight, her mom gave her a used, nylon-string guitar that wasn't much to look at, but had a really nice sound. She learned a few folk songs at school, then started writing her own, which she kept very private and played for a select few until ...
... She was all grown up, living in Portland, Oregon, and editing a film project at The Northwest Film Center. And she started dreaming songs. The rest is ... her...story...
Juana's sound is unique. Her music has been compared to an eclectic bunch, like: Grace Slick, Carol King, Crissy Hines, Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant, Carly Simon, Sarde, Lou Reed, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Mazzy Star, The Mama's and The Papa's, Cheryll Crow, and ... Pink Floyd.
